FUNERALS | CREMATION | HASTINGS, MN

Our History

Michael and Mary Wise, bought the funeral home in 2001.  Since that day, they have served families in the Hastings, MN area and beyond.  With a combined 40+ years in the funeral business, they realized the need to be innovative.  Michael and Mary have a vision to change the face of the funeral business and reduce the stigma associated with death.

We’ve created a warm and inviting atmosphere at Wise Family Funeral Home & Crematory that feels more like home, than a traditional, formal funeral home.  That environment was created on purpose, after hearing from families that they wanted a space that would allow them to connect, be supported and grieve well together.  The space aids our team in serving people in their greatest time of need, in a welcoming and intimate space that feels like an extension of home.  We know that caring for the living while honoring those loved ones that have passed away is bigger than just the funeral business.  Our team at Wise Family Funeral Home & Crematory will consistently display our company core values which are KINDNESS, FAMILY, EMPATHY & COMPASSION.  You will see it in every interaction, both in our personal and professional lives.

You will discover that those core values are behind each and everything we do!  We welcome you to use us as a resource as you consider the choices in funeral planning and “at need” services. We are transparent in every aspect of the business and encourage you to shop our services and those of the local competition.  We’re dedicated to providing the most personalized service for your loved one and family without ever compromising value or burying your family in funeral expenses. Your family will always come first and will be treated like one of our own. You will receive the LOWEST PRICES, AFFORDABLE OPTIONS and MOST PERSONAL SERVICE in Hastings.

  • Mary Wise

Mary Wise, Owner / Vice President

Mary was 18 when she started working in the funeral business at a family-owned funeral home in South Minneapolis. The years she worked at that funeral home, they served over 2,000 families each year. While working there, she gained a great deal of knowledge about the funeral industry. At such a young age, she was exposed to many different situations which helped her to understand the need for personalized service. Mary knows firsthand how every family and every situation is unique.

While working at the funeral home she met Michael, and they were married 2 years later. Together, they managed a funeral home in Edina for 2 years. When they decided to start a family, she stayed home with their two children, Grace and Griffin.

The opportunity came along to purchase the Thomas Ellis Funeral Home in 2001 and Michael and Mary were thrilled. The opportunity to buy a funeral home in the community where Michael grew up, and that he loved, was a dream come true for them both. Their new business venture allowed them to continue doing what they loved, and for Mary to be home with their children.

Along with working at the funeral home and being an active participant in her children’s’ busy schedules, Mary loves to volunteer her time in the Hastings community. Some of those wonderful opportunities to give back have been the Holiday Assistance Program, the Back to School Program at Hastings Family Service, and Sharing and Caring Hands.
